Milennium Bugs - the home page of Jon Ward

OK - so you found it ! - my first attempt at a web page - took about 2 hours (sigh)

So ya wanna design a Web Page ?

1. OK - where to start - first you think of a subject (I think thats actually the hardest bit !) - then you should choose a web designer - something like FrontPage Express - if you can find one for free it may be worth trying - but to kick off (amateur programmer that I am) at present I chose to use bog-standard HTML and then nick other peoples ideas to learn the programming jargon - it does seem fairly easy - if you do want to attempt this route then please feel free to nick anything from my pages and modify (just right click and view source and then copy and paste it into any old text editor like notepad

2. You may have heard terms like frames and things - it really aint necessary for a starter - using HTML I just typed in the bits I want and worry about tarting it up later : )

3. You are gonna need to find a friendly ISP to host your page - get hold of a freebie - someone like Geocites or Fortunecity usually have something to offer !

4. Try and find out how you upload pages, images and other stuff - also theres a lotta stuff out there - backgrounds, midi files, images, fonts and freebies - but you gotta look !

5. Find out also how your host requires you to link your own pages - it took me a while to suss but remember simple is best - once you are with a host it appears that you just treat that root directory as your own also filenames are case specific and my site requires the extension .html

6. Finally you gotta learn about uploading your Web page (with associated graphic/wav files) to your chosen host. - I think thats about it - happy designing

7. Additionally you gonna need to learn about setting fonts, using them dang frames and the like

8. And remember - once you designed your pages you can copy them to disk and all your local links (and some of the others) will still work - so if you want to make minor changes you can do most of them off-line - try to keep them all in one place, I use a zip disk to emulate my hosts directory

If I ever get around to it I'll post all the links that I found somewhere on this page - ya never know - I may even tart this page up a little !
